Troy Oppie has spent the week with the Boise Hawks travelling to Canada. But now he faces his toughest challenge, the two foot long hot dog served up at the ballpark in Vancouver.Read more »
One thing I whole heartedly support is fring NFL draft prospects making YouTube videos to attract the attention of NFL scouts. We saw it with Jarron Gilbert two years ago. Nick Schrank is banking on ball balancing to get him into the league.
But what Zach Enyeart does for his video is just fun to watch.Read more »
This week's 'The Good, The Bad & The Oppie' features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson talking Boise State football, a tremendously unsportsman-like decision by two Utah high school football teams and the newest sponsor of a bowl game.Read more »
This week's 'Good, Bad and Oppie' highlights a long home winning streak by the College of Idaho, a sad cancer diagnosis for a baseball hall-of-famer, plus a strange strike proposal by students at New Mexico State following the loss to Boise State. Read more »
'The Good, the Bad & the Oppie' this week welcomes back Steelheads hockey, laments the collapse of the U.S. Ryder Cup team and shows just what a small world it really is. Read more »
Time to start something new with the blog. Each week I'll rank the WAC with plenty of armchair analysis and snarky comments.Read more »

A University of Utah fan website posted this pretty funny (with some questionable language) mock-facebook wall post between the teams and conferences in the Mountain West and WAC. Read more »
WAC commissioner Karl Benson, speaking by teleconference Thursday morning, expressed dismay and seemed near outrage that a day with so much promise turned sour so quickly. Read more »
Former Oregon tailback and current Tennessee Titan LeGarette Blount told Portland radio station KFXX this week that BSU's Byron Hout told a 'half-truth' in his story of what ignited Blout's punch of Hout last September. Read more »

Yesterday I was on 1320 KFAN in Salt Lake City with guest host Scott Gerrard. Scott and I go back a bit with a friendly Utah State-Weber State rivalry. But if you can handle those barbs going back and forth it was a fun interview and offers some insight into what Salt Lake City market thinks of the Mountain West's newest member.

Rough week for football in the state of Idaho. The game has been overshadowed by talks of a cultural divide between Idaho and Boise State contingents, who's ruder, more or less inebriated and so on and so forth.

I know this is a little after the fact, but I got some nice time off after a whirlwind week out at the Snake River Stampede and then in Salt Lake at WAC football media days. Read more »
The WAC Media Days are right around the corner and besides taking my opportunity to make Troy Oppie go get me the best marinade in the world from the local store. It's a chance to pick the WAC poll that everyone will talk about for about a week. So here's how Troy and I picked the preseason poll for the Broncos victory lap in the WAC:

Sharing video happens nearly every day in television - especially in sports. Just the other day I sent video of Boise Hawks pitcher John Mincone to ESPN for its nightly top ten. When BSU announced it had joined the Mountain West, the Mountain TV Network called KBOI looking for video to use in its own newscast, which we were happy to supply.Read more »

The Steelheads with a day off after some late night heroics by Evan Barlow. The double overtime winner sent the Cyclones fans home late and grumpy. After most of them told me on the way out that "Channel 2 should show up more often" (there is no Channel 2 that I can find in Cincinnati) I was glad they had the following sign hanging up for my own safety.Read more »
OK, compared to other road trips, I'm doing a better job of having some free time. That and the stadium and hotel are about two minutes from each other. So, today after morning skate, Steeheads play-by-play man Doug Plagens and I walked next door and caught five innings of the Reds and Brewers.

It's been a while for the "On the Road" blog I think I got some in from the Fiesta Bowl, but who knows that trip is still a blur. But here I am in Cincinnati, Ohio. Technically I'm in Covington, Kentucky which is right across the river from Cincinnati. In fact I may try skipping stones across the Ohio River from my hotel room.Read more »
This week's good, bad and ugly highlights a record performance by an Idaho Vandal, a must for the Idaho Steelheads if the team wants to come back from 0-2 in the Kelly Cup Final, and some painfully shoddy journalism. Read more »
Beautiful sites at the Sawtooth mountain range during the end of summer. Mt. McGowen is easily viewed not far from Stanley, at Stanley lake. The viewpoint of the whole Sawtooth range is located several miles south of Stanley. The Salmon River winds along the Highway in front of the range.
These are pretty places in the farm country west of Boise.
