SALT LAKE CITY, UT - The WAC football preseason previews were released today, with Boise State an overwhelming - but not unanimous - favorite to win the conference again in 2009.

Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own programs, and it appears Chris Petersen was the lone first place vote in the coaches poll. The rest of that poll breaks down like this; first-place votes are in parentheses.

Coaches Pre-season poll:

1. Boise State (8) 64
2. Nevada (1) 55
3. Fresno St. 45
3. Louisiana Tech 45
5. Hawai'i 36
6. San Jose State 34
7. Utah State 21
8. New Mexico State 13
9. Idaho 11

The media poll was a bit of a surprise - I expected BSU to be a unanimous choice to win the conference, especially with the Nevada game at Bronco Stadium.

Media Pre-season Poll:

1. Boise State (55) 519
2. Nevada (3) 444
3. Fresno State 365
4. Louisiana Tech 360
5. Hawai'i 275
6. San Jose State 263
7. Utah State 170
8. Idaho 110
9. New Mexico State 104

I had Utah State 2nd in my poll, a stark contrast to what the rest of the media seems to think. New Mexico State is an unfortunate easy choice at the bottom, with a new coach and few returning impact players.

It's also been announced that the WAC pre-season Defensive Player of the Year is Kyle Wilson of BSU. The offensive pre-season winner is Colin Kaepernick of Nevada.
