MURPHY, Idaho (KBOI) – The Bureau of Land Management says a large wildfire burning near the town of Murphy is expected to be contained by noon Friday.

The fire is estimated to have scorched around 9,000 acres. There are no buildings are threatened.

The fire is near Con Shea Butte, which is about four miles north of Murphy. (Photos from the Scene >>>)

BLM has dispatched a lot of resources to the area, including nine engines and four water tenders.

People who came to Swan Falls to fish or recreate were treated to some fancy flying as the helicopters doused the fire.

"Some of the helicopters, the way they maneuvered around and brought the buckets to drop the water right where they want it," said Cameron Roberts, a Kuna resident. "(It was) pretty amazing."

Crews say the flames have died down, and they will dispatch helicopters around 9 a.m. to survey the land to get a better estimate on the damage.
