MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) - Stores have begun hiring extra help for the holidays. Some have just a few job openings, but at least one store is doubling its staff.
Store manager Charon Mazloomi said she'll hire up to 50 new employees at Gordmans in Meridian. She also said the Nampa store needs help.
Marshalls in The Village at Meridian needs just two to four temp workers this year, according to a manager.
Petco in Meridian isn't hiring, a manager said. The part-time employees will take on more hours.
"We were putting applications out on the table for people to pick up because we want to hire a whole bunch of people because that new shopping center opened up right there," said Peter Murray, a department store employee, "so we're expecting to get tons of business right now."
At Gordmans, a few dozen positions are still available, although hiring started a month ago.
"We've already started seeing our sales tick up," Mazloomi said, "and it didn't hurt that the second part of The Village opened up just a week and a half ago, so that's helped business tremendously."
When a new Gordmans opens in Boise, temporary workers will have an opportunity to become full-time employees.
