Nampa man, 71, sentenced for sexually abusing young girl

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - A 71-year-old Nampa man has been sentenced to up to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a young girl at a local day care.

The Canyon County  Prosecutors say Ross White was sentenced Thursday.

Officials say the crime occurred between 2007 and 2009 at White's home while the victim was being babysat by his wife.

The victim disclosed that on multiple occasions, that White would make her touch his genitals. She said White also touched the her breasts and genitals. All of this occurred when she was between 7 and 9 years old, officials say.

White admitted to touching the victim, as well as having her touch him, for his own sexual gratification.

"He took advantage of me as a little girl," the victim, now 14, said in court. "I just want to say I am not going to let this have a negative effect on my life. I am going to walk away knowing that I am stronger. "I am going to take this part of my life and help others…going through the same thing and change somebody's life forever."

White will have to serve two years before he's eligible for parole. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender, pay the victim a $5,000 civil penalty and have no contact with the victim.
