Styrofoam Walls

NAMPA_ We have another Project Green Champion of the Week. This week, we take a look at an innovation many aren't even aware exists.

Energy Built is a local building company that specializes in concrete and Styrofoam wall blocks. The foam blocks stack up and are filled with concrete to become walls for a home.

Energy Built owner David Menzel says the walls can save homeowners 30 to 80 percent on energy costs. The walls are also made out of partially recycled material and are more fire and weather resistant than wood-walled homes.

David Menzel has been building them locally for eight years.

"Energy costs are going to keep going up, this is always going to save money so no matter hoe high it goes you're going to be cutting back on that, so it's the overall value," Menzel.

Menzel says the concrete walled homes will also last longer than standard wood framed houses. He says it costs about five percent more, but savings on energy bills make that up in two years.

Visit their website at EnergyBuilt.net to learn more about Dave Menzel's efforts and business.
