'Cash for Appliances' in Oregon
By Denae D'Arcy KVAL NewsEUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon already has an incentive program for people who buy energy efficient appliances. Therefore, the state government decided to use the $3.6 million in federal stimulus money to help low income families. Oregon citizens who make over $21,000 as a single person a year or $27,000 as a couple do not qualify for the rebate. The Oregon Department of Energy implemented an instant rebate of 70 percent (up to $2000) to low income families that buy energy star qualified heating systems. Those who think they meet the income requirements need to contact their local Community Action Program or CAP. CAP representatives will distribute the money. Oregon citizens who own or rent a home and purchase energy efficient appliances may qualify for a credit of $1,000 for heating and cooling systems and possibly 25 percent of the net worth of other qualifying appliances. |
