BOISE - The Idaho Humane Society is investigating the alleged negligent housing of five dogs.
Officials say the dogs were confined inside a small camping trailer in a rural location in Gem County. A veterinarian and IHS staff removed the dogs from extremely unsanitary conditions, they said on Friday.
The dogs, all of hound breeds or mixes, were transported to IHS where they were evaluated and treated and will remain under IHS care.
IHS says Gem County is continuing its investigation and that the owner, who's name is not available, has been charged with five counts of animal neglect and five counts of animal cruelty.
Officials say the dogs were also discovered in late January to be chained outside in freezing conditions in New Plymouth.
CBS 2 first reported the alleged abuse.
