UPDATE: MPC lays off about 80 employees at Nampa facility
NAMPA - MPC Computers announced Friday that about 80 employees at its Nampa facility lost their jobs Thursday.

The company says the cuts are across the board and affected a number of areas, including sales, marketing, manufacturing support and other operational functions.

As a result of the layoffs, the total number of employees in Nampa and North Sioux City is 693.

So are more layoffs scheduled?

"Further decisions to reduce or increase our staff will have to be continually reviewed based on both our financial health and the accomplishment of our business goals, and certainly within the broader context of overall economic conditions," MPC said on Friday.

The company said it struggled with the layoffs and described it as a "painful" decision.

"Current economic conditions are certainly a factor, since they ultimately affect the ability of any company to access lines of credit and capital sources - and to the degree that they ultimately affect the spending plans of our customers," MPC says.

"For the most part, however, yesterday's layoffs reflect MPC's efforts to create a financially stronger and more competitive company, for the benefit of all our remaining as well as future employees."

Nampa Mayor Tom Dale says he's not concerned about the future of MPC in Nampa.

"As far as I know they're very healthy, they've got good contracts out there and they have shown the ability to be flexible and to adjust to market conditions and that bodes will with the company," he said.
