State: Woman reported $8,000 in false renter's insurance claims
CALDWELL - A Canyon County woman has pled guilty to insurance fraud.

Authorities say Jennifer Fisher, 36, submitted a false burglary claim against her renter's insurance policy to the State Farm Insurance Company in 2006.

Last year, an Idaho Department of Insurance investigator received information that Fisher had possession of the items she had claimed were stolen. State Farm paid Fisher about $8,000 in false claims, officials say.

"Insurance fraud is on the increase," said Bill Deal, IDOI department director. "Our investigative unit is dedicated to helping law enforcement agencies prosecute those who commit it."

Fisher will be sentenced in January.

Insurance fraud is a felony punishable by up to fifteen years in jail and a $15,000 fine.
