BOISE - Rumors are, well, rumors.

Boise State head coach Chris Petersen issued a statement Friday denying reports that he had been offered the head coaching job at Mississippi State.

"I have a lot of respect for director of athletics Greg Byrne and the Mississippi State athletic program, but I am not taking the head coaching position at Mississippi State," Petersen said.

Petersen has been out recruiting all week and CBS 2's sister station KEPR in Tri Cities, Wash. confirms he was in Prosser, Wash. on Thursday.

"Mississippi State has not offered me the head coaching position. I normally do not comment on coaching positions at other schools, but I felt I needed to do so in this situation," he said. "We are very happy here at Boise State and look forward to our upcoming bowl game later this month."

There have also been rumblings within the University of Washington that the Huskies offered Petersen $3 million per year to take over the winless pac-ten program. Those rumors were put to bed as new reports surfaced that UW offered the job to USC Coordinator Steve Sarkisian, and he accepted.
