MARSING - A Homedale boy has died after accidentally being shot by a friend.
The Ada County Coroner says 12-year-old Marcos Jaramillo died from his injuries late Monday night.
Daryl Crandall, Owyhee County sheriff, says the two friends were at a home in Marsing when a 14-year-old girl was handling a semi-automatic pistol Sunday afternoon. Crandall says the girl accidentally shot a 12-year-old boy in the head. The girl apparently mishandled the weapon when it discharged at around 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
The boy was air lifted St. Alphonsus in Boise. The Ada County Coroner says the boy died from his wounds at 11:48 p.m Monday.
Homedale Middle School principal Lucia Asumedi-Mereness spent hours with the family before and after the boy's death and is shaken up by the incident.
"I feel sick to my stomach," Asumedi-Mereness said.
The principal says the students at the school are heartbroken over the loss of their fellow classmate. The sixth graders played a soccer game in tribute to Marcos. They're trying to understand why and how this happened.
Crandall says the two children are friends and are Homedale Middle School students.
