HAILEY (AP) — Blaine County government employees will soon have a shorter work week.

County Commissioners voted 2-1 Tuesday to adopt a four-day, 10-hour a day schedule for government offices.

The county will try the new Monday-through-Thursday schedule for a 12-month period starting Aug. 31, with reviews scheduled each quarter.

Officials say the switch from a 5-day work week could save about $12,000 in energy costs and reduce carbon emissions by up to 141 tons by closing down buildings an extra day each week.

The county has about 160 employees and 27 departments and four major buildings.

Before the vote, some business officials opposed the change. Real estate agents and mortgage brokers speculated they would lose revenue and commission by not being able to file transaction paperwork on Fridays.
