MIDDLETON — More than $80,000 has been raised to help pay for brain surgery for a Middleton man who suffers from severe cluster headaches.

The fundraiser, organized by Nampa-based Impact Radio Group, raised the money for Ryan Stockdale.

Doctors say an experimental procedure could cure Ryan Stockdale's cluster headaches, which are also known as "suicide headaches." He's experienced them for the last five years.

An insurance company earlier this week denied coverage for the procedure.

"The family needs that time together as a family, they need to rally around Ryan," said Scott Turlington, spokesman for the Stockdale family.

Stockdale and his wife, Karia Stockdale, are packing for a trip to San Francisco for the surgery they hope can be performed next week.

"We had the commitment from Ryan's physicians the second the Stockdales called and said we're ready, they would clear their calendars the best they could to do it as quickly as possible," said Turlington.

The Stockdales and their four children in 2007 were featured on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," a TV program that builds new homes for struggling families.

"I think it's good that everyone comes around and donates their time and money to help someone out," said DJ Kisman, who helped organized the event. "It builds a community stronger as a family instead of just individuals.

Fundraising efforts are still continuing for the family.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday families living at 9636 W. Kampton Street in Boise are holding a yard-sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. All proceeds will go to the family.
