UFO
PHOENIX AND BOISE -- Almost ten years to the date since the famous Phoenix light phenomenon of 1997, more strange lights appeared in the Arizona sky Tuesday night.

The mysterious lights prompted residents to flood police dispatchers and TV news hotlines with phone calls.

It seems these lights were actually military flares.

That was the government's explanation offered in March 1997 when thousands of residents saw a silent, mile-long formation of lights over the Valley of The Sun.

Paranormal experts had a field day even after the Air Force said they were flares from an A-10 military jet. Paranormals said flares couldn't fly on their own over that distance.

The Discovery Channel did a special on the lights, even a movie was made about them; it just came out on DVD a couple of weeks ago.

The Treasure Valley has had its share of mysterious lights. A strange light was videotaped hovering near Table Rock in April 2000.

And the phrase "flying saucer" was coined by an Idahoan back in 1947. Businessman Kenneth Arnold used it to describe an object he saw while piloting his plane near Mount Rainer.
