CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A former DMV employee accused of stealing money from an office in Canyon County has pleaded guilty to two counts of felony grand theft.
John Bujak, Canyon County prosecutor says that 57-year-old Catherine Benoit stole about $403,000 during her tenure with the Division of Motor Vehicles in Canyon County. Prosecutors are recommending the judge order the former clerk to serve at least five years in prison and as many as 28 years.
Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18.
She is accused of stealing the money between 2000 and 2009.
Her case, along with those of two other women who have acknowledged taking money, has prompted ITD officials to conduct a statewide review of DMV transactions.
