BOISE -- Off year elections traditionally see low voter turnout and in the Treasure Valley this one Tuesday seems headed in the direction.

Early voting in Boise is running behind the last 2007 city election which logged a 30 percent turnout but don't tell early voters we talked to that it doesn't matter.

"I'm about 60," said Jim Thomas of Boise. "For 30 years, I was part of the silent majority. I only voted when it was convenient. But I've changed. it's important, every election is important."

And you never know what may draw voters out. While the Boise streetcar project itself is not on the ballot, the issue has been a big part of the local political discussion.

"There's been a lot of letters to the editor,and some candidates running on the issue," said Prof. John Freemuth with the Boise State Political Science Dept. "And there's a sense that maybe some of the elected officials have mishandled it a little bit."

But barring any surprises, it would seem this off-year election is on track to meet the lowered expectations.
