Hot button voter issues in Treasure Valley
BOISE - Idaho voters on Tuesday had several hot button issues to decide.

One of the biggest issue in the Treasure Valley is likely the Canyon County Jail. Canyon County residents will vote on a $46 million bond for a new facility that would build a 652-bed facility near Notus.

In Boise, there are three seats on the Boise City Council. Incumbent Maryanne Jordan is challenged by Lucas Baumbach and David Webb. Incumbent Vernon Bisterfeldt will be challenged by Daniel Dunham and David Honey. There will be a new member on the council because Jim Tibbs is stepping down.

A proposed streetcar has been the big debate between candidates TJ Thompson and Dave Lister. The city is looking at a plan that would have a streetcar run down Idaho Street. Boise has applied for $40 million in stimulus funds for the project.

In Star, residents vote on a $6 million bond that would allow the city to purchase River Birch Golf Course and use part of the land for a public swimming pool. If approved, property taxes in Star would be raised by $56 per $100,000 of assessed value.

In Nampa, residents select a mayor. Mayor Tom Dale is seeking re-election. He is being challenged by: Bradley Blamires, Jim Dorsey, and Melissa Sue Robinson. Two city council seats are also up for grabs in Nampa.

In the Caldwell mayoral election, the incumbent is Garret Nancolas. He is challenged by Helmut Martinez Kohler.

In Kuna, there is a 10 person race for two seats on the Kuna City Council.

In Eagle, two city council members will be voted into office. It's a four year term for a council seat. Five candidates have thrown their hat into the ring.

And in Meridian voters decide on new city council members.
