BOISE - It's blue and orange, vs. black and gold... a rivalry that is decades in the making.

But this season in Boise, there's a little less Bronco color.

That extra black and gold makes George Eidam, University of Idaho Alumni, proud.

"Well I think there's a lot of people that live in Boise that become Boise State supporters, until the Vandals come to town," Eidam said.

Eidam's special connection to the U of I started in 1951.

"You just kind of felt like one big family, and it was just kind of like your home away from home," he said.

That's when a football coach asked him to be the quarterback.

"So I said coach, that's a pretty good deal," Eidam said. "I think I could make that team."

While watching old Vandal reels before heading to Saturday's big game, Eidam remembers securing a tough win in his day, beating Washington State, 10 to zero.

"It was not supposed to happen, but it did," he said. "And it was a big thrill."

It was an obstacle much like his alma mater faced Saturday against BSU, one of the best teams in the nation.

"Anybody can beat anybody on any given day, I believe," he said.

A victory could be just what the Vandals need to get back in the game.

But here in Bronco country, blue and orange still reign.
