Man dies in collision with train at Oregon light rail station

GRESHAM, Ore. – An investigation is under way in Gresham after a man was struck and killed by a MAX light rail train Sunday evening.

Police said the man was apparently crossing the tracks to get to another train when he was hit.

Witnesses said the train operator sounded the train’s horn more than once and activated emergency stop procedures but the pedestrian was still hit.

The incident took place at a station located at the Eastern Parkway and Division Street in Gresham at about 8 p.m. It was dark at the time but the station is lit by streetlamps.

The victim was not identified. Witnesses said the pedestrian was wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt and initial reports indicated a female had been hit but police confirmed the victim as a male.
