Suspect strikes officer after allegedly stealing car
PARMA - Parma police responded to a report of a suspicious subject in front of a Parma home, Saturday night at 9:20 p.m.

Parma police say, as an officer approached the man, Lorenzo Ramos-Renteria, he walked forward and said something in Spanish.

Officials say the officer then ran Ramos-Renteria's license plates and discovered the vehicle was taken at gunpoint from the Moses Lake area of Washington, earlier Saturday.

Authorities say the officer commanded Ramos-Renteria to get on the ground, but he laughed and then got back in his vehicle. Police say the officer followed the suspect and was then struck by him. Ramos-Renteria then ran into an area filled with onion crates.

The Wilder Police Department, Nyssa Police Department, and the Canyon County Sheriff's Office assisted on scene. The Canyon County SWAT team was alerted and the Parma Rural Fire Department blocked the road to protect the public.

Authorities say Ramos-Renteria was found hiding in the bed of a truck on the Giant Produce property. He tried to run from the scene, but police say a taser was deployed after a brief struggle. Ramos-Renteria was taken into custody and later checked by medics.

The suspect is now in the Canyon County Jail, authorities say. He was booked on numerous felony and misdemeanor charges. Some of those are Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Controlled Substance and Battery on a Peace Officer.

Ramos-Renteria will be arraigned Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
