Dog Attacks Own Family
A Boise mother and son are recovering Thursday night after their pit bull attacked them.

The attack happened inside the families house near Fairview. The mother told CBS 2 Eyewitness News the dog was protecting its property, but attacking them draws the line and neighbors say it was bound to happen.

"I was scared to death and the first thing that came to my mind was something needed to be done with the dog," Lois Wood told CBS 2 Eyewitness News.

When Wood heard what her neighbor's three-year-old pit bull did, memories of her grandson's attack came rushing back.

"From what I understand that little boy had invited my boy to get toys to bring outside to play with and I guess when he went in the dog sensed it being a stranger in the house and lunged at him from behind the couch," Wood recalled of the attack.

Pictures show the bite mark 14-year-old Austin suffered on his left thigh.

"I screamed like as loud as I could because I knew it hurt like really, really bad," Austin told CBS 2 Eyewitness News of what remembers from the attack.

"It was pretty bad, they couldn't do stitches on it," Wood said.

The dog sits inside a cage at the Humane Society now. He was picked up by animal control Thursday afternoon after he attacked his owner, and her son inside their house. The mother declined to go on camera but told CBS 2 Eyewitness News both of them are fine. She suffered some bites, her son several puncture wounds. Neighbors say it was only a matter of time.

"That dog would come out and I was concerned that the dog might come through the gate and may be attack me," neighbor Robert "cosmos" Tofte said.

After the attack the dog won't be going home and that's what Wood thinks is best.

"I think it's about time, it's too bad that it's had to go this far you know to get something done, it's just, it's unfair," she said.

The owners say they plan to sign the dog over to the Humane Society where it will most likely be put down.
