www.idahovaluesalliance.com/ A few days ago, the US government reported that teen birth rates have hit an all-time low. This as Planned Parenthood prepares to host a clinic aimed at teaching teens sex ed. But Bryan Fischer says leave our kids alone.
"I would walk across broken glass in my bare feet before I would put the sexual health of my teenager in the hands of planned parenthood," says Fischer.
He claims abstinence is the best policy, and the majority of seem to teens agree. The same study puts the number of teens having sex down to 47%. Fischer thinks that's proof kids are getting the message, and groups like Planned Parenthood are being counter-productive by teaching teens about condom use and birth control. In fact, he applies their idea to drug education.
"We'd have people standing in front of teenagers saying look you really shouldn't use drugs but if you're going to use drugs here's the best way to inject yourself," says Fischer.
Burke Hays, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood of Idaho, sees a problem with Fischer's analogy.
"There's not a biological to engage in some drug related activity." Hays says the program educators encourage and promote abstinence. but teens need to learn sexual safety as well. Fischer's plan, he claims, won't work.
"It's a problem because people have sex. Whether they're married or not, people are going to have sex at some point in their life. 99.9 % of the population is going to do that," Hays says.
Two philosophies, one goal. Keeping 100% of US teens out of harm's way.
