Single action revolvers, center fire cartridges, the smell of holster leather... the cowboy fast draw... is a wild west contest that's all about hitting your mark.
It's a timed sport using a single action.45 caliber western style six shooters and it has some cowboys and cowgirls of all ages fired up...
7 year-old Colby Coffman said, "It's really fun shooting the target you feel like your in in a real showdown."
Annette Coffman told CBS 2 Eyewitness News that, "It really gets your nerves...your shaking and your adrenaline starts running and then its timing."
They say it's the exhilaration of reacting as fast as you dare while remaining cool headed enough to hit your mark competing head to head in classic old west fashion.
But, today's shootout is about something more than just competing it's about remembering.
Donna Sunbbye said, "My husband Larry passed away on July 14th of a heart attack...just shocked us all."
Larry Sunbbye is the reason so many shooters came out today.
Annette Coffman said, "We all got together and decided we are going to celebrate him and this is to help his wife move on."
Curly said today was, "All in his memory because we really miss him being here."
No matter who wins the shootout these cowboys all share a common interest of keeping history alive.
