BOISE, Idaho - A presidential disaster declaration has been approved for the state of Idaho as a result of the
spring flooding.Seven Idaho counties were forced to declare disaster emergencies. Members from FEMA and the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security toured damaged areas and put together a joint preliminary damage assessment for each of the seven counties.
They then presented their findings to Gov. Butch Otter.
"We think we are significantly north of that $2 million threshold," Bill Shawver, director of the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security told KBOI-TV earlier this month.
FEMA will pay 75 percent of the infrastructure costs - leaving the state or the local jurisdiction applying for federal funding to pick up the rest of the tab. The declaration was approved for Lewis, Idaho, Adams, Valley, Washington, Payette and Gem counties.
Cleanup projects may include debris removal and road and bridge replacement.
"I want to thank the county folks for collaborating so well with the Bureau of Homeland Security in getting this help where it's needed most as quickly as possible," Otter said.
