COEUR D'ALENE - The Kootenai County Sheriff's office is investigating the death of an Idaho scuba diver found Tuesday afternoon in Coeur d'Alene Lake near a floating golf course green.

Sheriff Rocky Watson says Mike McCullough, from Rexburg, was working for a contractor who picks up golf balls from the lake bottom in the area surrounding the Coeur d'Alene Resort golf course's floating 14th hole.

Watson says a resort employee saw McCullough, in his mid-20s, near the movable island green.

Employees pulled him from the water and began CPR. He was transported to Kootenai Medical Center where he was pronounced
dead.

Watson says it's unclear how McCullough died, but an autopsy will be performed this week.

Deputies in dive gear went into the lake to recover McCullough's gear, in hopes of determining what went wrong below the surface.
