BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - La Shala Palmer and Avalon Martinez were upset when they found out their employer Regis Salon, was closing the store in the Boise Towne Square Mall.

They became angry once they found several documents containing employees Social Security numbers and other personal information thrown in a dumpster without being shredded.

The two women were told over a week ago the store would be closing, and it did several days later. On Thursday, they received a call from another mall employee who said the salon had thrown several items in the garbage, and people were diving in to get it.

Palmer and Martinez went down to see if there was anything sentimental they might want to keep, like their old salon chairs. They grabbed a few bags of stuff and went home and that's when they said they discovered employee applications dating back to 2009.

The papers had Social Security numbers and other information often targeted by ID thieves. Along with those there was another large bag filled with customers information including their names, phone numbers, and addresses.

Palmer was especially worried when she looked through the documents and realized her information wasn't there.

"I'm upset, I totally know it's out there," said Palmer.

Both say they've seen dumpster diving done at the mall before especially when stores move out or remodel. Even though Regis Salon closed, they also own two other salons in the mall. The company also has several other salons around the Treasure Valley that are under different names such as Hair Masters.

We did try to contact the district manager, but they did not return our calls. We eventually got a hold of a media spokesperson at their headquarters in Minnesota.

The person could not answer our questions, and the people who could were out of the office. She did say they would try to get us more information about their policy and procedures when closing a store.
