Home destroyed: 'We ran outside screaming there was a fire'

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - A home was destroyed by a second alarm fire late Tuesday evening in Caldwell.

Canyon County Dispatchers say the fire broke out at a Caldwell home on Virginia Parkway just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

When firefighters arrived, the blaze was upgraded to a second alarm because another home was threatened. Crews from various agencies joined them at the scene.

Investigators say that the fire appeared to have started on the exterior of the home, then spread to the attic. It damaged the roof and siding. A neighboring home was scorched but did not catch fire.

"You can't see it from the street, but on the backside of the house, the roof is pretty much gone," said Caldwell Fire Battalion Chief Brad Carico

Many neighbors gathered outside to watch the fire.

"We heard a bunch of screaming and yelling and so I told her to open her window and there were a bunch of flames and we heard what sounded like gun shots and stuff, so we ran out screaming that there was a fire," said Aubrey Labarbera, a neighbor.
