Reese Witherspoon has made a career on a squeaky-clean, girl-next-door image, but her recent run-in with the law may have put that in jeopardy. So it's no surprise that the actress and activist is laying low this week, canceling talk show appearances and other public engagements.

Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Toth, were arrested Friday after Toth was stopped for driving under the influence. During the traffic stop, Witherspoon reportedly became disorderly with the arresting officer, leading to her own criminal charges. By the time news of the arrests hit the tabloids on Sunday, the "Mud" actress was already clearing her calendar.

Canceled engagements include stops on "Good Morning America" and "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" this week, both of which were supposed to be opportunities to promote her new film. However, it seems likely that her arrest would have taken the front seat in any interviews given this week.

Witherspoon has issued an apology, noting that she "clearly had one drink too many," and stating that she was "deeply embarrassed" by her behavior.
