Despite sweet robot moves, Bill Nye sent home on third week of 'DWTS'

Bill Nye may know his way around a lab, but for the third week in a row, the one-time Seattleite failed to blind the "Dancing With the Stars" judges with science and, as a result, was booted from the show's orbit.

Nye, whose geeky themed performances have been a hit on the internet, could never quite get the show's viewers or the judging panel on his side, at times having his numbers compared to unpleasant events like getting waxed.

In their final performance, the two performed a jazz-infused robotic number to summer's big hit, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," during with Nye channeled Michael Jackson (or, possibly, C-3PO) with mechanical movements.

The beloved PBS figure didn't seem especially optimistic going into the performance, however; just before the show, Nye tweeted an Instagram photo of himself in his illuminated TRON-esque costume with the caption "Here goes nothing..."

Nye's turn on the show has been persistently difficult, culminating in an injury which threated his future on the competition. Last week, in another blow, he partially tore a ligament, which, ABC officials noted, would possibly require surgery. Still, the Science Guy seemed optimistic on social media, tweeting that he and professional partner Tyne Stecklein "plan[ned] to dance!"

Other contestants, including Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Valerie Harper, and Jack Osbourne all scored well about Nye and Stecklein.

Nye had only good things to say about Stecklein, who said that the hardest part of the loss was that she would no longer be able to compete.

"She's fantastic," the former Boeing employee said of his partner.
