NEW YORK CITY -- World Wrestling Entertainment joined forces with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to host the largest ever global online auction to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New York and in New Jersey.
"Superstars for Sandy Relief, and the subsequent funds raised, will make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of New Yorkers still recovering from Hurricane Sandy," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "On behalf of the city of New York, we thank WWE for its overwhelming generosity."
"This is just one of the many events to show how the WWE not only impacts the community but also gives back to the community," said WWE superstar John Cena.
Wrestling fans can visit the Charity Buzz website to begin bidding on items. Current auction items include experiences with Cena, musician Sting, Michael J. Fox, Charlie Sheen, Tony Hawk, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and many more.
"The devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy continue to present challenges here at home," Said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman and CEO. "We are proud to partner with Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Christie on Superstars for Sandy Relief, a global auction that will provide significant financial support for relief efforts in New York and New Jersey."
Charitybuzz raises funds for nonprofits around the globe through online auctions with well known celebrities. Some of the auction items up for bid are a chance to meet NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, pitch a business idea to Mark Cuban, meet sting backstage at a future show and more.
