Parking Problems

Summary

Boise Police are cracking down on illegal parking. You may remember CBS 2 Eyewitness News told you that cars were towed from Julia Davis Park during a Broncos home game a few weeks back and during today's game Boise Parks and Rec were keeping a close eye on parking. It's illegal to park on the grass or in un-marked parking areas in Boise parks, but some tailgaters said police are taking all the fun out of game day.

Parking Problems
Game day is full of fun...tailgating, cheering, and winning the game, but for some fans parking restrictions are ruining the party.

Darin Wood said, "We get here around 4 o'clock in the morning," and he's not joking, "By 4:30 this area is full."

Cars are parked one after the other lining the streets bumper to bumper.

"It gets a little ridiculous we have to be down here extremely early in the morning to get our spot," Wood said.

"BSU has really grown a lot and the fan base is exploding," Wood said.

Boise Parks and Rec said the fan explosion is causing parking problems, "We had cars parked all along the street and some were double parked on each side and so an emergency vehicle could not have gotten through here," Jerry Wilson said.

That's why during the last home game 11 cars were towed from Julia Davis Park.

Mario Villanueva said, "We had tow trucks coming in and we've never seen tow trucks here."

"I think a lot of people were un-clear about the rules," Wood said.

So, for today's game, Boise Parks and Rec spread the word about parking rules trying to inform fans.

"We had these no parking signs, but they're not really clear here, so we painted all this yellow all the way down," Wilson said.

Boise Parks and Rec also put up signs with park rules and they're extending the park hours until 11 on game days.

Wood said, "We want them to have fun, but we want them to do it safely."

That's what fans want too, "It's a family event, so for us it's the ultimate Saturday," Wood said.

Boise Police are also keeping a close eye on alcohol use it's against the law to have an open container on Boise streets and sidewalks and within 250-feet of the greenbelt.
