BOISE - Boise is going after graffiti. Last December police arrested the Treasure Valley's biggest offenders. But now they're seeing more spray paint.
Ultimate and Wheel on Fairview has been a target for taggers. Manager Steve Ramos says the graffiti started in October, stalled around December, but kicked back into high gear.
“We have big old nice white walls here. It's like a little kid's chalkboard,” Ramos said.
And it's getting worse. Ramos says the graffiti pops up faster than they can paint over it.
“We go through five gallon buckets like nothing, man,” he said. “At least once a week, we buy five-gallon bucket.”
It's no secret Boise hates graffiti. In October Mayor Dave Bieter said he got more calls from from citizens concerned about graffiti than anything else.
Lynn Hightower, a spokeswoman at Boise P.D., says they're campaigning to stop graffiti.
“We know that we can't eliminate graffiti in Boise, but by golly, we're going to give it our darnedest try,” Hightower said.
Police had a huge victory a in December when they arrested three taggers authorities say spray painted their way to $100,000 in damages. To stop Boise current rise in graffiti, Hightower says police need your help.
“When it does show up, what folks need to remember is report it and remove it. And that is proven to help decrease the incidents of graffiti,” she said.
