Ada County warning of pavement scam
BOISE - Ada County Sheriff’s deputies are warning people to avoid scam artists targeting Treasure Valley homeowners.
Officials say that in the last few days, several victims have called to report being scammed by a group of pavers working in Canyon County.
Most of the complaints are from homeowners in the Middleton area, however, deputies say they will likely move into Ada County soon.
“These workers are using the classic ‘leftover asphalt’ sales pitch. They claim to have asphalt leftover from a previous job and offer to sell it to the victim,” said Ada County Sheriff’s Detective Mike Taddicken.
Taddicken urges anyone contacted by these pavers to research the company before agreeing to do business with them. Idaho law requires all contractors to register with the state. Workers must be able to present proof of that registration to potential customers upon request.
Operating without the required registration is a misdemeanor that can result in jail time and fines.
“Do your homework. Call the Idaho Contractors Board or the Better Business Bureau and make sure any company you plan to deal with is a legitimate one,” he said. “If you wait until they have your money, it may be too late.”
