Man drowns bodysurfing on Oregon Coast

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. - A man drowned while bodysurfing with a friend Wednesday evening in the Pacific Ocean off Lincoln City, Oregon State Police said.

North Lincoln Fire & Rescue deployed two jet skis around 8:40 p.m. They located the man about 200 yards from shore and pulled him from the water just after 9 p.m.

The man was identified as Kerry Eugene Bamford, 56, of Pasco, Washington.

Investigators said Bamford and a friend were bodysurfing. The friend last saw Bamford about 100 yards off shore, trying to swim back to land.

The friend notified onlookers on the beach, who called 911.
