EUGENE, Ore. - The Duck football team challenged the University of Oregon student body to a snowball fight.

A melee ensued.

Just before noon, University officials sent out an email informing students, faculty and staff that “classes, events and non-essential services” would be canceled at 2 p.m.

Almost immediately the football team tweeted a message they were challenging the student body to a snowball fight at 1:30 at the Erb Memorial Union building.

About a dozen football players, including Heisman candidate quarterback Marcus Mariota and running back De’Anthony Thomas, faced off against about 100 of their fellow students in a snowball fight that lasted nearly an hour.
