DENVER- The Democratic National Convention has been called the Christmas Eve of politics. Festivities kicked off on Monday with more than 20 folks from the Gem State in Denver to participate.
The stage is set, the security high.
"We're just so happy to be here," Norena Gutierrez said over the phone from Denver.
The next four days, more than 4,000 delegates will fill the stands at the Pepsi Center in Denver for the 2008 DNC. Ada County alternate delegate Gutierrez is one of those and she's pumped.
"It's like there is something wonderful going to happen but I don't really know exactly what it is," she said.
Gutierrez can't wait to share her first ever DNC experience that's why she's blogging about her trip. in one of her recent postings she writes:
"I am here! I can't believe it! It feels like I am going to have a baby, but I have never had a baby, so I don't know what I am saying."
Idaho has 23 delegates in Denver. According to Gutierrez Idaho had some prime seats near the front of the podium for the convention, that is until Delaware Senator Joe Biden got picked as Obama's second hand man.
"Now that there's a Delaware contingent, we've been swapped out apparently so we're going to be a little further in the back," said Gutierrez.
Fellow first time delegate Estella Zamora says they aren't going to let the seat swap ruin the experience.
"It's just exciting to be there, anywhere in that arena and that is what I think is the most important," said Zamora.
With Hillary Clinton expected to hand over her delegates to Obama Zamora says the Idaho delegation is turning to what matters most inside the convention-what they need to do to win this November.
Out of the 23 delegates from Idaho, three went as Clinton supporters. Over the phone Zamora says she's rooming with one of the Clinton delegates who told her they plan to switch their vote to Obama when it's time make their mark.
