BLM: Delivery guy burns about 2,500 phone books
BOISE - A local phone book company says one of their delivery workers didn't really feel like doing any delivering.

Instead, the phone company says, the delivery worker took about 2,500 phone books that he was supposed to deliver and took them onto BLM land near Blacks Creek Road.

The man then apparently burned the books - in an effort to collect a delivery fee without actually delivering the phone books.

"We're very upset about this," said Kim Donner, a sales associate with PDC Pages. "We pay these people to get our books out to our customers - our advertisers aren't getting any exposure."

PDC publishes about 180,000 to 200,000 copies a year to local residents.

Donner said the phone company is working with BLM officials, who contacted them about the burned books when they were discovered last week. Each book costs about $10 to print.

Lee Kliman, law enforcement ranger with the BLM, says he has a pretty good idea who the suspect is. He's still conducting interviews, however, and did not release many details.

Kliman did say, however, that the suspect faces two charges - commerical dumping and illegal burning on public lands. Both charges carry a $100,000 fine and a year in jail.

Customers who did not receive a phone book can call PDC at 344-0110 and a new book will be delivered to your home.
