BOISE - Voting is well underway here in the Treasure Valley.

Polls have been open since 8 a.m. While there have been some lines, none are reporting more than a 20 minute wait. Canyon and Ada County officials say things are off to a smooth start.

"I heard about long lines all around the country and I (wanted) to be early," said Patrick Doughterty, a Boise voter.

Dozens joined Doughtery in line outside the Boise Senior Center before this precinct even opened.

The lines were not at all what some had prepared for compared to Monday's early voting lines.

"We went to vote yesterday and the line was really long so we thought it would be the same today but we got lucky," said Christina Peyton, a Boise resident.

Between early voting and absentee - half of Idaho's registered voters have already cast their ballots in what's being called a historic year.

"I think it's a very defining election," say Ray Coleman, another Boise voter.

And just how the country's future is defined will be a whole lot clearer after polls close at 8 p.m. tonight.

Election officials are expecting the evening hours to be the busiest once people get off work. As long as you're in line by 8 p.m. you'll be allowed to vote.

About 200,000 people are registered to vote this Election Day in the county.
