Police: Man arrested after trying to meet child over the Internet for sex

Police: Man arrested after trying to meet child over the Internet for sex
NAMPA - A Homedale man was arrested Friday afternoon after officials say he was planning on meeting a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Authorities say at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Arthur Schmierer, 35, was arrested at the McDonald's on North Midland in Nampa.

Information was forwarded to the Canyon County Sheriff's Office, by the Iron County Sheriff's Office out of Utah, indicating that Schmierer was attempting to solicit young females via the Internet to meet him for the purpose of sexual activity.

Officials say, Schmierer, who's an interstate truck driver, conducted the communication from out of state. A local investigation was opened and Schmierer agreed to meet with who he thought was a 13-year-old child at a Nampa McDonalds.

Internet and telephone communications, conducted by task force personnel, indicated that Schmierer was interested in having sexual contact with the person he was going to meet

Schmierer has been arrested on felony charges of attempted lewd conduct with a minor under 16 and enticing children over the Internet.

Schmierer is being arrainged in Canyon County Monday.
