BOISE - Elections may be over, but it appears politicians are still reaching out to young voters through social networking sites, including Facebook.
"Since then, and especially since President Obama has been in office, we've seen an increase," said Jonathan Parker, executive director for the Idaho Republican Party. "I think in just the last few days, we've added 50 new Facebook members."
However, Republicans are not the only ones utilizing Facebook. Democratic Congressman Walt Minnick also has a Facebook page. Minnick's spokesperson, John Foster, said the congressman wants to reach as many people as possible.
"It's a small community," Foster said. "It's a way for communities to gather and talk, just like a coffee shop or a weekly newspaper, except it's online."
Boise State students said Facebook makes them feel like they're on the same level as the candidates themselves.
"Taking them down from like a high up figure that we can't talk to, to someone that we can associate with on almost like a friendship level," said Trista Marsey, a BSU student.
