Man suspected of murder after fight outside pool hall
BOISE - Boise Police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning outside a bar and billiards hall on Overland Road.
Police arrested , Jeremy Hobbs, 27, who is being held in the Ada County Jail without bond on a second-degree murder charge. He's suspected of shooting and killing Ahmed Cepalo, 29, of Boise.
Boise Police says they were called to a report of shots fired at 10531 W. Overland Rd. at 2:06 a.m. Saturday morning.
Boise Police patrol officers were in the area and got to the scene within one minute of the call. As officers arrived, they saw one man down in the parking lot. Witnesses pointed out the suspect who was still armed. Boise police patrol officers were able to take him into custody peacefully.
After interviewing numerous witnesses, detectives say it appears a verbal argument involving the suspect and another man began inside the bar.
The two men carried the argument outside. Witnesses tell officers Cepalo, an acquaintance of those involved including the suspect, stepped in to try and calm the situation down.
Instead a shoving match began the suspect and victim. Witnesses say the suspect then pulled out a small revolver and fired, hitting the victim several times.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are still investigating the exact number of shots fired.
"This is a very unfortunate situation for everyone involved. The victim is a young family man," said Sgt. Mark Barnett of the Boise Police Violent Crime Unit.
"Witnesses tell us the victim had just called his wife to come give him a ride home, and that he apparently was trying to calm everybody down when he was shot," said Barnett.
Detectives say Ahmed's wife did arrive on scene shortly after the shooting. She was met by Boise Police patrol officers who were securing the perimeter of the scene. A Boise Police victim-witness advocate and detectives later informed her of what happened.
Ashley Wyatt, who works near the pool hall, says says patrons of that establishment would often spill into her store to buy cigarettes.
"I've actually had to ask them to leave before because they were loud and rude and I couldn't stand for them to be in here," Wyatt said.
Boise Police are asking anyone who may have information, perhaps witnessed the argument or shooting, but has not been interviewed by detectives to please call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
