Police: Drunk dad has son, 13, drive home
KUNA - Authorities have charged a Kuna man who allegedly was so drunk one April night that he had his 13-year-old son drive him home.

Andrea Dearden, public information officer for the Ada County Sheriff's office, says on April 4 a Kuna Police officer saw a Jeep Cherokee driving erratically near School Street in Kuna.

The deputy stopped the vehicle and discovered a 13-year-old boy driving. The boy's father, William Barkell, 34, was in the passenger seat and told the deputy he was too intoxicated to drive home. He apparently asked his son to do the driving.

The boy did not have a license and had never driven a car before. Barkell's wife was later called and drove the two home. At the time, Barkell was issued a misdemeanor injury to a child citation. All of the evidence was turned over to the Ada County prosecutors who have now charged him with felony injury to a child.

Barkell turned himself in on the warrant Wednesday morning.
