BOISE - In an effort to help the BSU community enter a turbulent job market, the university's career center held a 'Job Search Boot Camp.'
"I want to figure out all my skills," said Matthew Hastings, a Boise State University student.
The one-day conference featured workshops on a variety of topics, including networking and resume writing.
The BSU Career Center said it is seeing an increased demand for its services. Between the fall of 2007 and 2008, there was a 40% increase in its career counseling appointments and a 30% increase in job search appointments. However, it's not just students that need help.
"Our work with alumni has gone up over 90% in the last year," said Debbie Kaylor, BSU Career Center director.
Despite the turbulent job market, Kaylor said this is the time for some job seekers to shine. The career center said of the best ways to get ahead is to network.
"If you can find the jobs before they ever get posted, then you're going to be way better off," Kaylor said.
The Job Search Boot Camp was open to BSU juniors, seniors and alumni.
