Suspicious fire destroys building
BOISE - Officials say the Ada County Sheriff's office is now sifting through the rubble, conducting a criminal investigation to determine the cause of a fire at an Idaho State Parks and Recreation building at the base of Lucky Peak.

A parking lot at Sandy Point served as a temporary office for some Idaho Parks and Rec. employees Saturday morning, because yellow caution tape blocked the entrance to their building.

Arial West is a seasonal employee for the Recreation department and says she can't believe what she saw when she arrived at work.

"I was very sad, this is like a second home," West said. "It's where you come and enjoy the day."

Detective James Roberson says a fire ripped through the property just below the dam around 12:30 a.m., Saturday. A witness called authorities and firefighters squashed the flames.

"Boise fire was able to get up here fairly quickly, so I think that's what helped stop it from spreading," Roberson said.

Despite the quick response by fire crews, there isn't much left inside the burned out Rec. Building.

Ken Blake, park ranger, says besides losing their building, the fire consumed tools, family photos and a brand new lawn mower that had never been used.

"It's going to be tough for a while," Blake said.

But Blake says although it's going to be tricky to rearrange daily operations, his team is strong and will do what it takes to get their jobs done.
