4th fireworks and pet safety

BOISE, Idaho - Local shelters say they see a huge spike in strays on July 5th, but there steps you can take to make sure your pet makes it through the holiday safely.

Even if you have an outdoor pet it's best to keep them inside.

Hannah Parpart with the Idaho Humane Society says, little things go a long way in keeping your pet from making a mad dash out of the neighborhood. "Turn on the air conditioner, close the windows and blinds and make sure there is some background noise," says Parpart.

Because there are so many strays on the 4th, the Humane Society in Boise is going to waive their pickup fees until Sunday.
