SAN FRANCISCO - Ryan Stockdale's family is taking a much-needed deep breath.
After a possibly life-altering surgery, doctors are now saying "mission accomplished." Doctors said on Wednesday that the brain surgery couldn't have gone better.
Although it's unclear whether the operation will stop his cluster headaches, the family says they're feeling good.
"I got to see him and he looked really good," Ryan's wife, Karia said. "He was really groggy and not awake, but he looked good. Great, in fact for a guy who just had brain surgery."
Karia allowed her children to see their dad after the surgical halo was taken off his head.
"He's a tough cookie," she says. "He's been through a lot the last couple of years."
The Stockdale family says they know they've still got a long road ahead. In fact, they don't even know if the procedure will work.
"To know we're over our biggest hill is a big deal," she says. "A bumpy road that they're happy to take."
