Ryan and Karia Stockdale.
MIDDLETON - Last month Middleton resident, Ryan Stockdale, had brain surgery to hopefully reduce, or eliminate, his crippling cluster headaches.
Last week, the stimulator that was implanted was turned on and Ryan says things are finally starting to look up.
Ryan has been back home for less than a week, and his stimulator has only been on for a few days but the early signs look good.
Ryan says he still gets the headaches, but they don't happen as often, aren't as intense and they don't last as long.
"[I was] kind of a prisoner in my own body," Ryan said. "Just a person who sat and watched life happen. Didn't get to experience anything but pain."
Ryan says the pain also affects his family, who has cared for him virtually around the clock for months.
Ryan hopes to one day be fully recovered, even if it takes years to get there.
For now, just being able to speak is a big improvement.
