GOODING, Idaho (AP) — A former Bliss High school teacher has been sentenced to six months in prison for sexually battering a 16-year-old student.
Anna Bettencourt, 40, was sentenced to a retained jurisdiction prison program followed by up to 10 years of probation by 5th District Judge John Butler on Monday.
She pleaded guilty in April to one count of felony sexual battery of a minor, acknowledging that she had sex with a male student from the small 170-student Bliss School District, The Times-News reported.
Bettencourt was a social studies teacher for the high school until she was fired in February.
Bettencourt will be required to register as a sex offender.
