Wind and rain leaves thousands without power

Leaves and tree branches blow at speeds that got up to 50mph.

A high wind warning was in effect all Monday night as strong wind gusts hit Boise. Those gusts - some getting up to 25mph - brought down tree branches and power lines leaving about 13,500 customers without power during the height of the windstorm.

Jeff Bynum was heading home to the north end of Boise when he found his road blocked by a huge tree branch that had fallen.

"Once I got outside it was really blowing heavily and we had some lights go out at some intersections and it was pretty intense there," he said.

Bynum also added that on the way home in the rain and wind everyone on the freeway was driving about 20mph under the speed limit, just being extra cautious.

At last check Idaho power had restored power to about 5,000 customers but still were working on most of the outages in the most populated areas of the treasure valley.
